Here are answers to some of the questions you may have. If we missed one, please contact the church office by phone (813.996.2651) or by External link opens in new tab or windowemail and we'll assist you in any way we can!

Is First Baptist an independent, fundamental church?

Yes, we are.  Many "First Baptist" churches are part of the Southern Baptist Convention, but First Baptist Church of Land O' Lakes is not.

What are services like?

Sunday 9:00 a.m.:  Bible Studies geared for adults, teens, and children.
Sunday morning 10:00 a.m.: Worship services combine hymns and edifying music with clear, practical preaching and teaching from the Bible. Devices for hearing assistance are available.
Sunday evening 6:00 p.m.:  Sunday evening we gather together again to worship and enjoy fellowship around God's Word. Warm fellowship and extra congregational singing are normal facets of Sunday night.  Devices for hearing assistance are available.

Wednesday 7:00 p.m.: We gather for prayer and Bible study.  During school months, there is simultaneous training for youth and children (AWANA Programs at 6:45 p.m. and Youth Meetings at 7:00 p.m.).   Devices for hearing assistance are available.

In all our services, our speakers teach and preach directly from the Bible using the King James Version as the ministry's preferred text.

"We are a church always ready to help you make a decision for Christ and provide biblical counsel."   Pastoral Staff of FBC

About Us

Our church is more than just a place to go or an event to attend; we are a

a church that believes the doctrines of the historic Christian faith. We believe the Bible is the Word of God. We believe in the virgin birth and deity of Jesus Christ. We believe that Christ died for our sins, rose from the grave, and is coming again.

We are a church that is self-governing, independent of denominational  control, and focused on spreading the teachings of Jesus Christ through our community outreach programs.

We are a church with a Bible-centered program. People carry their Bibles to church because they are used in every service. We do not preach what we think, but what God says.

Our vision is to be a church where people can:

  • experience the real God for your real life. You don't have to have it all figured out before you come to Him. God loves you right where you are, and we want our church to be a place where you truly experience His love.

  • connect in relationship with God and others. We believe life is meant to be lived in close community with our Creator and the ones He created. Our focus is on helping you connect with and grow closer to God so that you might connect with and grow closer to our community of believers.

Our Mission

Our mission is:

To evangelize the world, edify the body of Christ, and equip Christians for service.

Soul Winning - Reaching People with the Gospel

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

- Mark 16:15

Discipling - Training People in God's Word

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." - Matthew 28:19, 20 a

Encouragement Through Fellowship

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as ye see the day approaching." - Hebrews 10:25

Bible Teaching and Preaching

"Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." - II Timothy 4:2

How to go to Heaven

Becoming a Christian is not about becoming religious. Rather, it's about coming into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became man without ceasing to be God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished and fully completed our redemption through His death on the cross, making eternal life in heaven possible for anyone who places their faith in Him and His completed work.

He loved you so much; He was willing to prove it by giving His life for you!

Know that all men are sinners
"For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not." - Ecclesiastes 7:20
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23

Understand that the penalty of sin is death

"For the wages of sin is death..." - Romans 6:23
"...The soul that sinneth, it shall die." - Ezekiel 18:4
"...Sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." - James 1:15

Know that our good deeds or works can never earn, pay, or merit our way to heaven
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us..." - Titus 3:5
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." - Ephesians 2:8,9

Believe Jesus Christ has already paid the penalty for our sin
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." - I Peter 2:24
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" - I Peter 3:18

All we can do to go to heaven is to believe (trust) in Jesus Christ as our personal Savior

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life; and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." - John 3:36

If you have not already trusted Christ as your Savior, there is no better time or place than right now.

If you would, just offer God this simple prayer:
"Dear God, I know I am a sinner and my sin deserves to be punished. I believe Christ died for me and rose from the grave. Realizing that I can do nothing to save myself, I trust Jesus Christ alone to be my Savior. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me everlasting life. In Jesus' name, amen."
